<b>Роберт Грейвс</b> (Грейз, <b>Robert</b> Ranke <b>Graves</b>)<br/> 24 июля 1895 — 7 декабря 1985<br/>Британский поэт, ученый и романист. В течение своей долгой жизни создал более 140 произведений.<br/>Литературные псевдонимы - Джон Дойл (John Doyle), Барбара Рич (Barbara Rich, with Laura Riding).<br/>Родился 24 июля 1895 года в пригороде Лондона Уимблдоне, ныне знаменитом своим теннисным турниром. Отец Грейвса был ирландцем и принадлежал к семье священнослужителей, причем занимавших в Ирландии весьма высокие посты в церковной иерархии. Мать же была немкой; она приходилась внучкой великому немецкому историку Леопольду фон Ранке.<br/>В 19 лет Грейвс ушел на фронт и в битве при Сомме был тяжело ранен. Демобилизовавшись, Грейвс поступил в Оксфордский университет, который окончил в 1926 году со степенью бакалавра литературы. В том же году его пригласили читать лекции в Каирском университете.<br/>Три года спустя распался первый брак Грейвса — с феминисткой Нэнси Николсон, от которой у него было четверо детей. Грейвс женился вторично — на писательнице Лоре Райдинг; они прожили вместе десять лет, и Грейвс сам признавал, что именно Лора Райдинг была его истинной «Белой Богиней».
